FYS Summer Reading: Access to the Book

All new students who are taking FYS in the fall participate in our summer reading program. This year, the book is available online at no cost to you. This guide will show you where to get access online and how to use the online formats if ebook reading is new for you. Enjoy!

Listen Online - Totally Free

Note that these are read by volunteers, so the quality varies. These are MP3 files and you should be able to play them once you download them.

Public Library Access

Your local public library may have an available copy of the book for you to read.

Visit your local public library to find out if they have the book and how to borrow materials from them.

About the different ebook formats:

HTML:

  • This is just a webpage with the text of the entire book on one page. Lots of scrolling.
  • Just click on the link above and select HTML. No special app is required.
     

Kindle:

  • You do not need a Kindle tablet/device to read this format! You can also use the Kindle app on your phone, tablet, or laptop, but you must have an Amazon.com account.
  • You read page by page, can take notes, and even search for words you don't understand while you are reading.
  • The app keeps track of where you are in the book.
  • Visit the Kindle Instructions tab on this page to learn how to get the Kindle file to your device.
     

EPUB:

  • Read this format in a variety of apps on your phone, tablet, or laptop.
  • EPUB is also the format to use if you have a Nook.
  • You read page by page and even search for words you don't understand while you are reading.
  • The app keeps track of where you are in the book.
  • Visit the EPUB Instructions tab on this page to learn how to read the EPUB file on your device.
