Access Library Resources from Off Campus
Most library resources can be accessed from off campus using your 18-digit
barcode/library ID number, this is the long number on your university
ID card. If you do not have an ID card, you can use our Library
ID Number Lookup service.
If you are having problems accessing resources, please try these common
fixes:
- Double check that you have entered all 18 digits correctly
- Turn off your internet firewall
- Use Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Netscape, not AOL
If these do not fix the problem, please contact the Information
Desk and tell us what database you are having problems with and what
error messages you are getting.
Clear the Cache in My Internet Browser
Sometimes, clearing the cache in your internet browser my help resolve
some technical problems. Here are the steps to take to clear your cache:
- Internet Explorer: Tools menu -->Internet Options
--> On the "General Tab' there is a section on "Temporary
Internet Files". Click on "Delete Files". Click "Ok"
and "Ok" again.
- Netscape: Edit menu --> Preferences --> Click
on the arrow next to "Advanced" --> Click on "Cache"
--> Click on the button "Clear Cache". Click "Ok".
- Firefox: Tools menu --> Options --> Click on
the Privacy icon --> Click on the "Cache" tab --> Click
on the button "Clear Cache Now". Click "Ok".
Make a Transparency
You can make color or black-and-white transparencies in the library by
sending your file to one of the library printers. Insert your transparency
paper in the printer before you release your file. If your transparency
has a white strip of paper on it, insert the transparency so that the
white strip is on top and at the back of the printer. Transparency paper
is available at the Circulation Desk in the library.
Print out PowerPoint Slides in the Library
PowerPoint slides that are accessible on the web or through BlackBoard
can be printed from the lab computers in the library (the computers that
do not have flat screen monitors). Hold down the 'shift' key while you
are clicking on the link to the PowerPoint file. Click on Save, and save the file - it doesn't matter where you save it. Then click on open. Select File -- Print to print the presentation. If you
want to print several slides per page, choose 'handouts' in the Print
What drop down option.
Reset my Tutorial Score
Contact the librarian at the Information Desk to have your tutorial score
reset. You can stop by the desk, call 570-662-4671, or use the Ask
a Librarian form. Please be sure to tell us you 7-digit student ID
number and which sections you want reset.
Scan a Picture
You can scan a picture at one of the graphics workstations located near
the Information Desk in the library. If you need help, the librarian or
computer assistant will be glad to assist you.
Turn on Cookies
Some library services require that you have cookies enabled on your computer.
If you are having a problem with cookies, set your computer to 'accept
all cookies.' Here are the steps to take to turn on your cookies:
- Internet Explorer: Tools menu --> Internet Options
--> Privacy -->Drag the slider to the appropriate setting. Generally
if you are having problems, move the slider to "Accept All Cookies".
- Netscape: Edit menu --> Preferences --> expand
'Privacy and Security' --> Cookies --> select the appropriate
radio button. Generally if you are having problems, select "Allow
All Cookies".
- Firefox: Tools menu --> Options --> Click
on the Privacy icon --> Click on the "Cookies" tab -->
Make sure "Allow sites to set cookies" is checked. Click on
the Exceptions button and click on "Remove all sites" at the
bottom of the window. Click on "Close". Click on "OK".
Use the Color Printer in the Library
To use the color printer, select the "color printer" in the
print options at your computer. The color printer is on the far end of
3rd floor south. Color transparencies should not be printed on the color
printer; come to the Information Desk for assistance with transparencies.
Use the Wireless Network in the Library
The library is completely wired for wireless. Instructions for setting up your computer to access the wireless
network are available from the
IT's Wireless information page. Wireless connections are only available
to MU students and employees.
View Adobe Acrobat/PDF files
To view PDF files, you need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on
your computer. You can download
Adobe Acrobat at no cost. Test Acrobat on your
computer.
