In addition to books and journals, North Hall Library also collects a variety of media items including audio, visual, and non-print materials.
Media materials and equipment may be checked out to the following individuals, with a valid ID:
Courtesy patrons and faculty/students from other schools may not check out standardized tests or any equipment. Only currently enrolled students may check out laptop computers.
You can find audiovisual materials by author, title, and subject in the MU Library Catalog (PILOT).
You can also look up items by subject in the Teaching Materials Guide. You may view the Teaching Materials Guide online .
CDs are located in the Music Library on 1st floor South of North Hall.
DVDs and Videos are located in the Curriculum Library on 1st floor North of North Hall
Laptops, standardized tests, headphones, and listening/viewing room or study room keys are available at the Circulation Desk. Records, VCRs, kits, realia, models, and transparencies can only be retrieved for you by library employees. To request these items, bring the title, call number, and location/item type to the Information Desk. Return these items to the Circulation Desk when you’ve finished using them.
There are four listening/viewing rooms where students can play records, CDs, cassette tapes, videos or DVDs. The rooms are located on the first floor of North Hall in the Music Library. Keys for these rooms are available at the Circulation Desk. In addition, the library has CD players available in the study carrels in the Music Library. Headphones for these are available at the Circulation Desk. Groups of up to 20 people may view videos, DVDs, and other presentations in the theater-style Screening Room. Faculty and students can reserve the Screening Room by contacting the Information Desk (570) 662-4671.
Viewing of videos and DVDs in the library is limited to educational and personal entertainment use only. It is forbidden for organizations to use library facilities to show videos or DVDs protected under the US copyright law without public performance rights.
Individual pictures, and sets of pictures are available for students to use as visual aids for student teaching or presentations. You can search for pictures by subject in the MU Library Catalog (PILOT) and the Teaching Materials Guide. Both study pictures, the sets, and picture file, individual pictures, are located on the 1st Floor, North, but they must be checked out at the Circulation Desk. The loan period for pictures is four weeks.
Faculty may place non-print items on reserve at the Circulation Desk.
Mail Service for Student Teachers
Student teachers placed too far away to conveniently pick up materials in person may ask to have items mailed to them. The student teacher emails his/her name, ID number, mailing address and a list of titles and call numbers of desired items to Fran Garrison, email@example.com. The student teacher may also ask the Education Librarian, Fran Garrison, to help select materials for a specific subject and grade level. Materials are mailed out within 24 hours of receiving the request. There is no charge for the mail service. Please send requests to: Fran Garrison
