Library Employment Opportunities

The North Hall Library employs between 40 and 45 student assistants during the academic year. There are numerous employment opportunities available in all areas of the library, both public and non-public, and during all hours that the library is open.

Student assistants are employed in most of the following library departments: Circulation/Reserve, Periodicals/Media, Reference, Interlibrary Loan, Government Documents, Technical Services, Acquisitions, Special Collections, and Administration.

Most students work an average of 10 hours per week and some areas require some nights and/or weekends.

How to apply:

Pre-Hire / Re-Hires:

Students currently working in the library will be given a Fall Pre-Hire or Spring Re-Hire Application toward the end of the semester to complete and return to their supervisor if they are interested in continued work with the library. Instructions are included with the application.

New Applicants:

Students seeking employment at the beginning of a semester must clear the Financial Aid Office in Alumni Hall, Room 122 and bring the appropriate paperwork to the Circulation Desk on the first floor of the library in order to get a library application. Applications are circulated among the work study supervisors and they contact students to set up interviews. Student work study in the library is every competitive and applicants are evaluated based upon the needs of a particular area, the compatibility of the applicant with those needs, the flexibility of the applicant's schedule, and their grade point average. The hiring process is usually completed within the first few weeks of the semester and previous library experience is not necessary.
