Does the library have computers for community users?
Community users can use the community computer located near the Library Service Desk (2nd floor South). Bring a picture ID to the Library Service Desk to be logged into one of these computers. Printing is available for community users, and a fee is charged for this service.
Community users may use the campus wireless network as a guest. Look for an open Guest network on your device. You may be asked to login with social media credentials.
I am not a student or employee of Mansfield University. May I borrow books from the library?
Yes! We welcome the use of the North Hall Library and its collections by people from the communities in our region.
Users not currently affiliated with the University may establish borrowing privileges with a $25.00 refundable deposit and the purchase of a photo identification card for $5.00. The deposit, but not the identification card charge, will be waived for spouses and children under the age of 19 of current MU employees if the employee agrees in writing to be responsible for fines and/or costs for unreturned or damaged materials. Members of the same family may have cards with one deposit, but each family member wishing to maintain borrowing privileges must have an identification card at $5.00 for each card.
Patrons under the age of 16 years old may establish borrowing privileges only if a parent or guardian completes the application.
What Can be Borrowed
A courtesy patron may borrow an unlimited number of items from the general circulating collection.
Online databases are only available to courtesy patrons while on campus. Due to license restrictions, the library cannot offer this service to courtesy patrons off campus.
Types of materials that may not be checked out include bound or unbound periodicals, reference books, special collections, items on reserve, standardized tests, or any type of equipment, including laptop computers. Interlibrary loan service is also unavailable to courtesy patrons due to the cost involved.
Circulation Periods
General circulating items, bestsellers, audiobooks, DVDs, CDs, and other media: Three weeks and two renewals
Overdue Fines
Courtesy patrons are subject to the same fines as students and other patrons. See the Circulation Services page for more information about overdues and fines. Unpaid fines and/or unreturned or damaged library materials will result in cancellation of borrowing privileges, revocation of the card, and a return of the deposit less the amount owed. In the event that any patron owes more than $25.00, the library reserves its legal right to pursue other means to collect materials or money owed.
Becoming a Courtesy Patron
Pick up an application from the Library Circulation supervisor, or use the link above, and return it during the regular business hours (M-F, 8-3:30) with $25.00 in cash or a check made out to Mansfield University (unless the deposit is waived).
If you have no outstanding balance on University accounts, you will be given a receipt to take to the C.C.S.I. office in Alumni Hall Student Center (hours: M-F, 8-4) where your photo ID card will be made. The cost of the card is $5.00 in cash or a check made out to C.C.S.I.
When you receive your ID card, take it to the Library Service Desk where you will be registered as a courtesy patron and borrowing privileges will begin.
Deposit Refunds
Courtesy patrons may have their deposit returned after turning in the identification card to the Library Service Desk and requesting a refund in writing. Any unpaid fines and/or costs of unreturned or damaged materials will be deducted from the deposit. If an identification card is not used within 5 years of the date it is issued, the $25.00 deposit will be forfeited.
