Philosophical Statement of the North Hall Library

North Hall Library will readily embrace the possibilities afforded by the digital age while still remaining true to the values of educational excellence and intellectual inquiry.

We will support the Mansfield University community in the pursuit of an education grounded in the liberal arts and in the personal development of character, scholarship, cultural awareness and service.

CHARACTER

North Hall Library will uphold intellectual honesty and integrity by embodying the core values of librarianship, including: equal access to information; intellectual freedom; objective stewardship of information; and the right to know without fear of censorship or reprisal.

SCHOLARSHIP

Because information serves as the lifeblood of an academic community, North Hall Library must play an integral role in providing the resources necessary for the pursuit of intellectual growth. Our primary goal will be to support the University curriculum and facilitate access to the world of scholarly information.

CULTURE

As the cultural touchstone of the University, North Hall Library will serve as a physical and virtual repository for vast and diverse collections of material relating to the arts, humanities, and sciences, both for leisure and for academic pursuits.

SERVICE

North Hall Library will be committed to promoting the information literacy skills necessary for life-long learning, which is indispensable to informed citizens and to active participants in the global community. We will lead by example as we serve our patrons with care, understanding, and the knowledge that our interactions may have far-reaching effects.

Access Services Vision Statement

Access Services will readily embrace the possibilities afforded by the digital age while continuing to provide traditional access to information. In this way, we will support the Mansfield University community in the pursuit of an education grounded in the liberal arts and in the personal development of character, scholarship, cultural awareness, and service.

CHARACTER

Access Services will uphold intellectual honesty and integrity and maintain the privacy of patron transactions, whether the transactions are in person or in a virtual environment. We will uphold the right to access information without fear of censorship or reprisal.

SCHOLARSHIP

Access Services’ goal will be to ensure the availability of, and access to, the resources necessary for the pursuit of intellectual growth.

CULTURE

Access Services will provide the most efficient interface between users and the extensive collections available to ensure easy, comprehensive access to the material and will implement innovative technologies and services to deliver information and scholarly resources.

SERVICE

By providing rapid and optimal access to our resources and the resources of a vast network of other libraries, we will assist in the promotion of information literacy skills and life-long learning for the Mansfield University community.

Public Services Vision Statement

The role of the Public Services Division of the North Hall Library will be to connect people with needed information resources, to teach students information literacy skills, and to develop collections—in the most appropriate formats—in support of Mansfield University’s varied curricula as well as other cultural and leisure pursuits.

CHARACTER

North Hall Library will uphold intellectual honesty and integrity by embodying the core values of librarianship, including: equal access to information; intellectual freedom; objective stewardship of information; and the right to know without fear of censorship or reprisal. We will impartially select materials offering a wide range of perspectives in an effort to grant our users access to the information necessary for formulating ideas and fostering personal growth.

SCHOLARSHIP

We will work closely with the faculty to develop and promote collections and services to meet the educational needs of the Mansfield University community. We will teach Mansfield University’s students information literacy skills—identifying the need for, finding, evaluating, and applying information—to further their intellectual development and lay the foundation for life-long learning.

CULTURE

We will build collections and sponsor programs that represent various cultures and viewpoints to expose our users to new ideas while maintaining core materials that enhance Mansfield University’s rich heritage.

SERVICE

We will provide friendly, efficient, and responsive service to the Mansfield University community, to MU alumni, and to the general public in support of their individual learning goals and needs.

Technical Services Vision Statement

Philosophical Statement of Technical Services

Technical Services will be dedicated to working cooperatively with other library units to provide exemplary library services for the academic community; to following and supporting national standards and practice in organizing informational resources; to conserving and accounting for expenditures; to promoting the creative use of staff talent in the delivery of services; and to maintaining a quality online catalog that allows electronic access to resources by the global community.

CHARACTER

Technical Services will uphold intellectual honesty and integrity by embodying the core values of librarianship, including: equal access to information; intellectual freedom; objective stewardship of information; and the right to know without fear of censorship or reprisal. Intellectual honesty and integrity will be evident in the soundness and completeness of the Library's online catalog and the ethical acquisition of materials.

SCHOLARSHIP

Technical Services' primary goal is to organize and process resources to facilitate the pursuit of intellectual growth.

CULTURE

Technical Services upholds North Hall Library's role as a repository of diverse collections by acquiring, cataloging, and preserving material supporting the University's liberal arts curriculum and mission.

SERVICE

Technical Services will be committed to obtaining materials and providing a quality online catalog that allows access to resources by the global community.
